Biological electron transport systems.

چکیده
The solid-state electrical conductivities of a number of ferredoxin model compounds are reported. For one of these compounds, (KFeS(2))(n), an electron transfer rate for a 25 A unit is shown to be at least 1 x 10(8) electrons sec(-1). The rate becomes proportionally larger for smaller molecular units. This rapid rate is consistant with a short pipe model for electron transport between two reaction sites. Some of the factors leading to this rapid transfer rate are considered.

This review article is about the role of electron-electron interactions in low dimensional systems and its transport properties in nano-structures. It begins with a review of the pair-distribution function theory of electron liquid systems taking into account the electron-electron interactions. We extend the theory for highly correlated system such two- and one-dimensional electron liquids. We...
متن کاملInteraction of Photophosphorylation and Electron Transport Systems in Bacterial Chromatophores.
Chromatophore fractions isolated from photosynthetic bacteria can catalyze light-dependent phosphorylation of adenosine diphosphate to triphosphate (l-3) and also a variety of lightactivated electron transfer reactions, including photoreduction and photo-oxidation of dyes and pyridine nucleotides (4, 5). Whether or not phosphorylation and such electron transport are independent, can occur simul...
متن کاملHybrid Nanocomposites of Montmorillonite/Copper Oxide, Synthesis and Evaluation as Effective Growth Inhibitors in Different Biological Systems
The external and interlamellar spaces of montmorilonite (MMT) were used as solid support for synthesis of CuO nanoparticles (NPs) at room temperature by the chemical reduction method. In this project, Copper Nitrate plus water (Cu(NO3)2. xH2O) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) were used as Copper precursor and reducing agent respectively. Then, MMT/Cu2+ nanocomposites were stabilized with different r...
متن کاملFlavin-linked oxidative enzymes of Lactobacillus casei.
A previous communication (2) indicated that heme-linked enzymes were not involved in the very considerable capacities of various representative microaerophilic lactobacilli for electron transport from a variety of oxidizable substrates to oxygen, but that specific flavin components were present in high concentration in each of these organisms. To determine the possible central role of flavin en...
متن کاملOptimal Control of Evolutionary Dynamics
Elucidating the fitness measures optimized during the evolution of complex biological systems is a major challenge in evolutionary theory. We present experimental evidence and an analytical framework demonstrating how biochemical networks exploit optimal control strategies in their evolutionary dynamics. Optimal control theory explains a striking pattern of extremization in the redox potentials...
متن کاملA coupling factor in bacterial photophosphorylation.
The photophosphorylation activity of pigmented particles derived from membranes of the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas caflsulata is greatly diminished by sonic treatment in the presence of EDTA. Activity can be largely restored to treated particles by addition of solubilized protein factor or factors, which functionally resemble coupling factors isolated from other kinds of energy-co...
